La Pastira Excelencia Picual — Case of 6 × 500 ml

La Pastira Excelencia Picual: early-harvest Picual EVOO from Aceites Monteolivo (Jaén). Intense, complex fruitiness, sweet entry, medium bitterness, light pepper. Case of 6 × 500 ml. From that harvest comes Excelencia: the early-harvest selection of Aceites Monteolivo, made only from Picual olives picked while the fruit is still green and holds all its aromatic strength.

In Villanueva de la Reina, beside the Guadalquivir and surrounded by olive groves as far as the eye can see, the La Pastira Excelencia Picual mill presses the olives of more than four hundred local growers every autumn. From that harvest comes Excelencia: the early-harvest selection of Aceites Monteolivo, made only from Picual olives picked while the fruit is still green and holds all its aromatic strength.

This is an oil made for the finish of a dish, for that drizzle of raw oil that changes everything. The dark glass bottle shields the oil from light, and the red label, with its Andalusian woman, already hints at the character inside.

Tasting La Pastira Excelencia Picual

High, intense and complex fruitiness. On the palate it opens with a sweet sensation, unfolds into medium bitterness and ends with a light, lingering pepperiness. All in balance: the power of Picual without rough edges, with the freshness of olives harvested early.

The Jaén countryside and Picual

Villanueva de la Reina lies in the Jaén countryside, the province with the most olive groves in the world, on the banks of the Guadalquivir. There Picual is the variety that covers almost everything.

The La Pastira mill, run by Aceites Monteolivo, presses the olives of more than four hundred local growers every autumn, so each bottle sums up the work of a whole olive-growing district.

A case of six bottles

La Pastira Excelencia Picual, 6 × 500 ml (3 L)

This format is the complete case sold by the mill itself: six 500 ml glass bottles of the same reference, three litres in total. The price is for all six bottles, not a single one. The photograph shows one of the real bottles; the quantity you receive is always the one stated in the product name.

Six bottles let you keep one open in the kitchen and the rest closed, away from light, until their turn comes. They are also made for sharing: a bottle of early-harvest oil from Jaén is a gift that speaks for itself at any table.

How to enjoy La Pastira Excelencia Picual

Its natural place is raw. Toasted bread with grated tomato and flaky salt, a chilled salmorejo, tender broad beans, a seasonal tomato salad or a vegetable carpaccio all gain depth with a thread of La Pastira Excelencia Picual. Over boiled potatoes, grilled white fish or freshly cooked pulses it brings that green, vegetal note that wakes the dish up at the last moment.

With cured sheep's cheese and dark chocolate the contrast is striking: the sweet entry of early Picual and its peppery finish bridge very different flavours. Taste it on its own first, from a spoon or with a piece of bread, to get to know its character before taking it into a recipe.

The mill sells La Pastira Excelencia Picual in cases of six, and that is how we offer it. Can I cook with it?
