Benizar Tasting Selection, case of 6 × 1 L

Benizar Tasting Selection is a case of six 1 L bottles holding the three extra virgin olive oils of Hellín (Albacete): two of gentle Arbequina, two of herbaceous Picual and two of balanced Coupage. Three profiles to alternate in everyday cooking.

Benizar Tasting Selection brings together in a single case the three extra virgin olive oils Acecasa makes in Hellín, in Albacete: Arbequina, Picual and Coupage, two one-litre bottles of each. It is a case for anyone who wants to taste before choosing an everyday oil, or who already knows that every dish deserves its own.

Six litres in total, each variety in its own bottle and never blended, so that the character of each olive reaches the plate intact. With Benizar Tasting Selection, the table becomes a small tasting workshop where comparing is part of the pleasure.

How Benizar Tasting Selection tastes

Nose

The Arbequina opens with hints of apple and a soft, aromatic scent. The Picual turns herbaceous, with tomato leaf and artichoke. The Coupage, the result of combining several olives, smells balanced and round.

Palate

The Arbequina enters gently, with low bitterness. The Picual offers a medium to intense fruitiness and a more marked balance between bitterness and pepperiness. The Coupage sits in the middle, versatile.

Finish

Each bottle ends in its own way: the Arbequina softly, the Picual with bitterness and pepperiness more present, the Coupage with a balanced close. Tasting a little of each on bread is the best way to compare them.

Acecasa, the house of Hellín

Benizar is the brand of Acecasa, a mill in Hellín, in the south of the province of Albacete, where La Mancha meets the lands of Murcia. It is an area of dry summers and rain-fed groves, where the olive ripens with little water and plenty of sun.

Behind Benizar Tasting Selection stands a house that makes its oils variety by variety and bottles them separately, so that each keeps its personality. The case is, in the end, a walk through that way of working.

Which oil for which dish

  • Arbequina: toast, delicate vegetables and gentle salads.
  • Picual: tomatoes, roast vegetables, pulses and grilled meats.
  • Coupage: mixed salads, stews and everyday cooking.
  • All three on a slice of bread, to compare aromas before dressing a recipe.

Benizar Tasting Selection, six one-litre bottles

Benizar Tasting Selection, case of 6 × 1 L

The litre is a comfortable size for daily cooking: it lasts a few weeks and is easy to handle. With two bottles of each variety there is oil for several months, and always a spare one when the first runs out.

The case keeps best in a cool, dark place, opening the bottles one at a time. Having three oils at hand means choosing by dish, much as one does with spices or wine.
