Two styles
The Arbequina is pale, bright green, with gentle fresh-olive fruitiness, green grass and freshly cut hay. On the palate it enters elegant, fluid and sweet; fresh grass, green almond and a fruit salad of green apple, banana and pear dominate, with a light peppery finish.
The Picual, by contrast, shows green-olive fruitiness with herbaceous dominance, more structure and more marked bitterness and pungency. Tasting them side by side is the best lesson in how oil changes with the variety.
A day full of meaning
For farmers, the first day of harvest is a day of emotion and work. Castillo de Canena celebrates it with this edition in deep red bottles, whose label pays tribute each year to a figure from the arts, sciences or sport.
