The traditional alcuza, in stainless steel

The alcuza is the traditional oil cruet of southern Spanish kitchens: the conical vessel from which oil was poured beside the stove. Baeturia brings it back in stainless steel, decorated with olive-harvest scenes and a band of tiles, and delivers it filled with 500 ml of its extra virgin olive oil. It is a container made to last, to be refilled and reused for years, and a gift that stays in the kitchen.

This model, the “Aceitunero”, shows a man harvesting olives from the tree.

Oil from Extremadura

Baeturia takes its name from the ancient region the Romans placed in the south of today’s province of Badajoz, a land of dehesa pastures, holm oaks and old olive groves. From there, the house makes extra virgin olive oils from Extremadura’s own varieties, such as Morisca, Carrasqueña and Manzanilla Cacereña. Its oil is cold-extracted at 22 ºC on the same day the olives are picked, to keep all the freshness of the fruit in the bottle.

Tasting notes

On the nose it shows medium-high fruitiness, with green notes of freshly cut grass, hints of ripe fruit and vegetal nuances at different stages of ripeness. On the palate, bitterness and pepperiness are both medium, with persistent vegetal notes that finish on hints of nuts.

How to use it

Pour straight from the alcuza: its spout lets you dose a fine thread of oil over salads, toast or finished dishes. When it is empty, simply refill it with your everyday oil. To keep the oil in good condition, store it away from the stove and direct light, and rinse it now and then with warm water before refilling.

In the kitchen

Its oil, with medium-high fruitiness and medium bitterness and pepper, suits raw use over toast, salads, tomatoes and vegetables, and for finishing stews and pulses at the table.
