Tasting Melgarejo Premium Arbequina
Arbequina has a tiny fruit, between one and two grams, that withstands cold well. On the nose, this one shows an intense green-olive fruitiness with apple, banana and green almond.
On the palate it is sweet and lightly peppery, with almost imperceptible bitterness. It is Arbequina seen from Jaén: greener and fresher than those from other areas.
Melgarejo, in Pegalajar
Melgarejo is a family company founded in 1995 by the children of Francisco Melgarejo and Juana Cordero, who carried on a trade their family had practised for more than two centuries. The mill is in Pegalajar, a village in Sierra Mágina, in Jaén.
Its olives come from its own estates, such as El Cuchillejo in Pegalajar itself, and from other groves in Jaén and Málaga. The oil is stored in stainless steel tanks blanketed with nitrogen to protect it from oxygen.
How to enjoy Melgarejo Premium Arbequina
- Salads.
- Desserts and sponge cakes.
- Boiled or roast potatoes.
- Pasta.
- White fish.
Its sweetness makes it a great ally in baking.
In baking, this Arbequina replaces butter in sponge cakes, muffins and shortcrust pastry, adding moistness and a delicate fruity aroma. Raw, over boiled potatoes with a pinch of salt, it shows all its sweetness. Melgarejo also recommends it with pasta and tender leaf salads, where its green freshness comes through undisturbed.
Six 500 ml bottles

The box makes it possible to enjoy the Arbequina for months, opening the bottles one at a time so the rest keep their freshness. It is also a complete gift.
They keep best in a cool, dark place, away from heat.
