Tasting Melgarejo Premium Hojiblanca

On the nose it shows an intense green-olive fruitiness with herbaceous hints, acorn, green almond, banana peel and apple.

On the palate it is sweet and lightly peppery, with very light bitterness and a very fresh aftertaste. Hojiblanca, the silver-leaved variety typical of Córdoba and Málaga, finds a delicate profile in Jaén.

Melgarejo, in Pegalajar

Melgarejo is a family company founded in 1995 by the children of Francisco Melgarejo and Juana Cordero, who carried on a trade their family had practised for more than two centuries. The mill is in Pegalajar, a village in Sierra Mágina, in Jaén.

Its olives come from its own estates, such as El Cuchillejo in Pegalajar itself, and from other groves in Jaén and Málaga. The oil is stored in stainless steel tanks blanketed with nitrogen to protect it from oxygen.

How to enjoy Melgarejo Premium Hojiblanca

  • Baked fish.
  • Salads.
  • Pasta.
  • Potatoes.
  • Gentle gazpacho.

Its fresh finish enhances fish dishes, and its sweetness makes it a pleasant oil for children and for anyone new to extra virgin.

Hojiblanca owes its name to the silvery underside of its leaves, which gives the grove a very distinctive pale grey tone. Its oil is among the sweetest in Andalusia, and in this Melgarejo version it keeps a fresh greenness that makes it very pleasant raw: over baked white fish, in a gentle gazpacho or in a potato salad, it brings freshness without bitterness.
